Acupuncture for Personal Injuries

Acupuncture for Personal Injuries

If you have been injured in a car, workplace or home accident, receiving acupuncture treatments can significantly reduce your pain, inflammation, and swelling and stimulate healing from the inside out. This natural treatment technique heals strains and strains in the back and extremities, and can even decrease the symptoms of whiplash. Acupuncture is also successful at treating injuries sustained from slips and falls, repetitive motion, and reaction injuries, as well as injuries from overexertion.

Personal injuries can either be acute or chronic, and both types can be treated with acupuncture to reduce pain and swelling. Acute injuries happen suddenly when you slip and fall, get hit by a falling object, or suddenly strain a muscle due to sudden movement or overexertion. During these injuries, pain, swelling and loss of movement are immediate and noticeable.

Chronic injuries are characterized by pain, tenderness and loss of range of motion that lasts for a minimum of three months. Certain types of back, shoulder, knee, and hip injuries as well as tennis elbow and carpel tunnel syndrome are considered chronic injuries.

Acupuncture requires no medications. In fact, it can reduce an individual’s reliance on pain medications, prevent addiction, and limit side effects. Pain killers and anti-inflammatories can cause grogginess, excessive tiredness, mental lethargy and lead to addiction when taken in large quantities over a long period of time. These are the reasons most pain medications come with a warning to avoid driving and operating heavy equipment.

Acupuncture has no known side effects and can be used by itself or in conjunction with traditional therapies. It does not interfere with other treatments and may make other treatments more effective. On average, individuals with acute and chronic personal injuries experience a significant reduction in pain and improvement in their health after their fourth session, and the benefits are cumulative and long lasting.

In recent studies, participants that received one or more treatments still showed pain relief four months after their last acupuncture session. They also had increased immune system function and were less likely to get sick than individuals who have never received an acupuncture treatment.
